C. Molto usato per ricordare e descrivere
There was / were ricorre soprattutto nei racconti che descrivono o rievocano scene e situazioni passate, e con un'espressione di luogo o di tempo dopo costruisce una descrizione completa. È una struttura utilissima per aprire una storia o per dare lo sfondo.
