Gruppe.
Die Formel lautet the + Superlativ + of/in.
| Typ des Adjektivs | Positiv | Superlativ |
|---|---|---|
| einsilbig | tall | the tallest |
| einsilbig (kurzer Vokal + Konsonant) | big | the biggest |
| Konsonant + y | happy | the happiest |
| zweisilbig | clever | the cleverest / the most clever |
| dreisilbig und länger | expensive | the most expensive |
| dreisilbig und länger | beautiful | the most beautiful |
- She is the youngest in her class. (Sie ist die Jüngste in ihrer Klasse.)
- This is the busiest street in town. (Das ist die belebteste Straße der Stadt.)
- That was the most interesting movie I've ever seen.
B. Unregelmäßiger Superlativ — good·bad·many·little·far
Einige häufige Adjektive und Adverbien bilden den Superlativ unregelmäßig und werden daher zusammen mit dem Positiv als Ganzes gelernt. good/well wird zu best, bad zu worst, many/much zu most, little zu least und far zu farthest / furthest.
| Positiv | Superlativ | Beispiel |
|---|---|---|
| good / well | the best | She is the best singer. |
| bad | the worst | It was the worst day. |
| many / much | the most | He has the most friends. |
| little | the least | This costs the least. |
| far | the farthest / the furthest | It's the farthest from here. |
- This is the best restaurant in the neighborhood. (Das ist das beste Restaurant im Viertel.)
- Yesterday was the worst day of my week. (Gestern war der schlimmste Tag meiner Woche.)
- Anna has the most experience of us all.
- This route is the farthest, but the safest.
C. Vergleichsbereich — of + Plural / in + Ort oder Gruppe
Auch bei Zeitspannen (the year, my life) steht of.
| Bereich | Form | Beispiel |
|---|---|---|
| Substantiv im Plural, Zeit | of + Plural / Zeit | the tallest of the three |
| Ort, Organisation, Gruppe | in + Ort im Singular | the tallest in the class |
- She is the smartest of all the students. (Sie ist die Klügste von allen Schülern.)
- This is the oldest building in the city. (Das ist das älteste Gebäude der Stadt.)
- It was the happiest day of my life. (Es war der glücklichste Tag meines Lebens.)
- He is the youngest player in the team. (Er ist der jüngste Spieler im Team.)
Kernpunkte
(z. B. She is the tallest in the class.)
(z. B. happy → the happiest, big → the biggest)
- 3Die Superlative von good/well·bad·many/much·little·far sind unregelmäßig und lauten the best·the worst·the most·the least·the farthest. (z. B. She is the best player.)
(z. B. the tallest of the three, the tallest in the class)
- 5Im Deutschen genügt beim Prädikat die Form am … sten ganz ohne Artikel, während das Englische zusätzlich the vor die auf -est oder most umgeformte Form setzen muss. (X: She is the tall in the class → O: She is the tallest in the class.)
