前置詞 (場所)
場所の前置詞は人やものの位置を表す短い単語で、in / on / at の3つが基本、under、next to、in front of、behind、between、among などがさらに細かい位置を表現します。前置詞のうしろには必ず名詞や代名詞が来ます。

A. in / on / at — 場所の3つの軸
in は空間の中、on は表面に接触、at は特定の地点を表します。in(中)/ on(上・接触)/ at(地点) という3つの軸を先に身につけると、他の前置詞の理解が楽になります。

B. 上・下・前・後 — under / over / in front of / behind
over / under は上・下、in front of / behind は前・後を表す代表的な前置詞で、それぞれ反対のペアで一緒に覚えると便利です。

- A lamp hangs over the table. (ランプがテーブルの上にぶら下がっています。)
- The cat sleeps under the bed. (猫がベッドの下で寝ています。)
- A tall man stood in front of me. (背の高い男の人が私の前に立っていました。)
- The garden is behind the house. (庭は家の裏にあります。)
C. 隣・間 — next to / beside / between / among
next to と beside は「すぐ隣」、between は「2つの対象の間」、among は「3つ以上の間」を表します。between と among の区別がこのグループの核心です。

- He was the only Korean among the visitors. (彼は訪問客の中で唯一の韓国人でした。)
重要ポイント
- 1場所の3つの基本前置詞 in(中)/ on(表面に接触)/ at(地点)の概念の違いをまず押さえるのが核心です。
- 2on は必ず表面に付いていることを意味するので、on the wall(壁に)・on the ceiling(天井に)にも使えるという拡張感覚を身につけましょう。
- 3under の反対は over、in front of の反対は behindとペアで覚えると、はるかに覚えやすくなります。
- 4between は正確に2つの対象の間、among は3つ以上の間に使うという区別がこのユニットのもっとも紛らわしいポイントです。
- 5前置詞のうしろには必ず名詞か代名詞が来て、動詞や文は来ないという基本規則を守ってください。
