Spiegazione

when è l'interrogativo del tempo, where del luogo, how del modo e dello stato, why del motivo, e l'ordine che li segue rispetta la stessa regola degli altri interrogativi (con il verbo be, be + soggetto; con un verbo ordinario, do/does/did + soggetto + forma base).

A.  when — tempo / where — luogo

when chiede il tempo — a che ora, quando, in quale momento — mentre where chiede il luogo: dove si fa qualcosa, dove si va, dove si trova qualcosa. La risposta è concreta e usa espressioni di tempo o di luogo (at 3, in Seoul, on Monday e simili).

InterrogativoChe cosa chiedeEsempio di risposta

whereluogo, posizionein Seoul / at home / on the desk
  • When is your birthday? (Quando è il tuo compleanno?)
  • When did you last see her? (Quando l'hai vista l'ultima volta?)
  • Where do you usually have lunch? (Dove pranzi di solito?)
  • Where are you going now? (Dove stai andando adesso?)

B.  how — modo, stato, grado

FormaSensoEsempio

  • How was your trip to Japan? (Com'è andato il tuo viaggio in Giappone?)
  • How is your mother these days? (Come sta tua madre in questo periodo?)
  • How can I get to City Hall? (Come si arriva al municipio?)

C.  why — motivo / risposta con Because

— Because ~.

  • Why do you study English? — Because I want to travel. (Perché studi inglese? Perché voglio viaggiare.)
  • Why not try the new cafe? (Perché non provi il nuovo bar?)

Punti chiave

  1. 1when corrisponde al tempo, where al luogo, how al modo e allo stato, why al motivo. (esempio: Where is the station?)
(esempio: How was the movie?)
(esempio: Why not take a break?)
  4. 4L'ordine dopo when, where, how e why è sempre lo stesso: con il verbo be, be + soggetto; con un verbo ordinario, do/does/did + soggetto + forma base.
