A.  Forma — had + participio passato

Soggettohad + p.p.Esempio
Ihad + p.p.I had finished before 5.
youhad + p.p.You had finished.
he / she / ithad + p.p.She had finished.
wehad + p.p.We had finished.
theyhad + p.p.They had finished.
  • I had read the book before I saw the movie.
  • She had gone home when I called her office.
  • We had eaten dinner before they arrived.

Era partita prima dell'arrivoShe had leftwhen I arrived
L'avevo già vistoI had seen the filmbefore we watched it again
Se n'era dimenticatoHe had forgotten my namewhen we met again
  • The kids were happy because their dad had brought gifts.
  • I didn't recognize her because she had cut her hair.
  • We were late because the taxi had not come.
  • She looked tired because she hadn't slept well.

Congiunzioni come before, after, when e by the time fanno da segnale che collega i due momenti.

Asse temporaleTempo verbaleEsempio di frase
Evento anteriorepassato perfettoShe had finished her homework
Evento successivopassato semplicebefore her mom came home.
  • After I had done my homework, I watched TV. (Dopo aver finito i compiti ho guardato la TV.)
  • By the time we got to the theater, the movie had started.
  • She told me that she had visited Paris twice.
  • Before he moved to Seoul, he had lived in Busan for ten years.

(esempio: She had gone, We had gone.)
(esempio: I had visited Paris before I turned 20.)
  3. 3Quando before, after, when o by the time collegano due eventi passati, l'evento anteriore va al passato perfetto: fai tua a orecchio questa disposizione. (esempio: By the time we arrived, the show had started.)
(esempio: I'd already eaten dinner.)
