Proposition participiale - forme négative et participiale accomplie

Explication

A.  Négation — Not/Never + participe

FormeSensExemple
Not + V-ingcomme on ne ~ pasNot knowing the answer, I stayed silent.
Never + V-ingn'ayant jamais ~Never seeing the sea, the child was amazed.
Not + (Being) + p.p.n'étant pas ~Not invited to the party, he stayed home.
  • Not feeling well, she stayed in bed.
  • Never having been to Europe, he was excited about the trip.
  • Not wanting to be late, I took a taxi.
  • Not having enough money, he couldn't buy the book.

After I had finished my work, ...Having finished my work, ...achevé avant → puis
Because he had lost the key, ...Having lost the key, ...perdu avant → d'où

  • Having read the book twice, I understood the story well.

C.  Accompli négatif — Not/Never having + p. passé

La négation de la proposition participiale accomplie se fait en plaçant Not ou Never devant having, ce qui donne not/never having + participe passé, au sens de « comme on n'avait pas ~ auparavant ».

FormeSensExemple
Not having + p.p.comme on n'avait pas ~ avantNot having eaten, I felt hungry.
Never having + p.p.n'ayant jamais ~ auparavantNever having tried sushi, she felt curious.
  • Not having slept well, I felt tired all day.

  • Not having received a reply, she called again.
  • Never having driven a truck, he was nervous.

  1. 1Pour mettre une proposition participiale à la forme négative, on place not ou never juste devant le participe, et l'on n'emploie ni do, ni does, ni did. (Ex. : Not knowing the answer, ...)
(Ex. : Having finished my work, I went home.)
(Ex. : Not having eaten breakfast, ...)
(Ex. : « ayant terminé ses devoirs » → Having finished homework.)
