Relativos - distinguir interrogativo y relativo

whoquién, a quiénI know who she is.
whichcuálTell me which is yours.
whatquéI don't know what he wants.
whencuándoTell me when it starts.
wheredóndeI forgot where I put it.
whypor quéI wonder why she left.
howcómoI know how it works.
  • I don't know what she wants. (No sé qué quiere ella.)
  • Please tell me when the store opens. (Dime, por favor, cuándo abre la tienda.)
  • I wonder why he was late. (Me pregunto por qué llegó tarde.)
  • Do you remember how we solved it?

whoPersonathe man who is my teacher
whichCosathe book which I read
thatPersona o cosathe person that helped me
  • I know the man who lives next door.
  • This is the book which I bought yesterday. (Este es el libro que compré ayer.)
  • She's the doctor that saved my life.
  • I met the woman who wrote this novel.

C.  Adverbio relativo — tiempo, lugar, razón, modo

whenTiempo (the day, the time)the day when we met
whereLugar (the place, the house)the place where I was born
whyRazón (the reason)the reason why she left
howModo (the way — no se usa junto)how she solved it
  • I remember the day when we first met. (Recuerdo el día en que nos conocimos.)
  • This is the house where I grew up. (Esta es la casa donde crecí.)
  • Tell me the reason why you were late.
  • I know how she solved the problem. (Sé cómo resolvió el problema.)

Ideas clave

(Ej.: I know where she lives. — interrogativo / This is the town where she lives. — relativo)
(Ej.: how she did it / the way she did it)
(X: I don't know who is he.)
