Relativos - distinguir palavra interrogativa e relativo

who·which·what·when·where·why·how têm a mesma forma, mas sem antecedente antes (o substantivo modificado) são palavra interrogativa e com antecedente são relativo.

Explicação

who·which·what·when·where·why·how têm a mesma forma, mas sem antecedente antes (o substantivo modificado) são palavra interrogativa e com antecedente são relativo. A palavra interrogativa encabeça oração substantiva e o relativo encabeça a oração adjetiva que modifica o substantivo anterior.

A.  Palavra interrogativa — oração substantiva

whoquemI know who she is.
whichqualTell me which is yours.
whato queI don't know what he wants.
whenquandoTell me when it starts.
whereondeI forgot where I put it.
whypor queI wonder why she left.
howcomoI know how it works.
  • I don't know what she wants. (Eu não sei o que ela quer.)
  • Please tell me when the store opens. (Por favor, me diga quando a loja abre.)
  • I wonder why he was late.
  • Do you remember how we solved it?

B.  Pronome relativo — oração adjetiva do antecedente

whopessoathe man who is my teacher
whichcoisathe book which I read
thatpessoa·coisathe person that helped me
  • I know the man who lives next door.
  • This is the book which I bought yesterday.
  • She's the doctor that saved my life. (Ela é a médica que salvou a minha vida.)
  • I met the woman who wrote this novel.

whentempo (the day, the time)the day when we met
wherelugar (the place, the house)the place where I was born
whyrazão (the reason)the reason why she left
howmodo (the way — não se usa junto)how she solved it
  • I remember the day when we first met.
  • This is the house where I grew up. (Esta é a casa onde eu cresci.)
  • Tell me the reason why you were late. (Diga-me a razão pela qual você se atrasou.)
  • I know how she solved the problem. (Eu sei como ela resolveu o problema.)

Pontos principais

(Ex.: I know where she lives. — palavra interrogativa / This is the town where she lives. — relativo)
(Ex.: how she did it / the way she did it)
(X: I don't know who is he.)
