Spiegazione
A. Tag dei modali — can / will / should / must ...
| Frase davanti | Tag | Esempio |
|---|---|---|
| affermativa + can | can't + pronome | You can drive, can't you? |
| negativa + can | can + pronome | He can't swim, can he? |
| affermativa + will | won't + pronome | She will come, won't she? |
| negativa + will | will + pronome | They won't mind, will they? |
| affermativa + should | shouldn't + pronome | We should leave, shouldn't we? |
- You can speak French, can't you? (Tu sai parlare francese, vero?)
- He won't be angry, will he? (Non si arrabbierà, vero?)
- Anna should apologize, shouldn't she? (Anna dovrebbe scusarsi, no?)
- We must hurry, mustn't we? (Dobbiamo sbrigarci, no?)
B. Tag dell'imperativo — ~, will you? / won't you?
| Frase davanti | Tag | Sfumatura | Esempio |
|---|---|---|---|
| imperativo affermativo | will you? | richiesta o conferma | Close the door, will you? |
| imperativo affermativo | won't you? | invito cortese | Have some tea, won't you? |
| imperativo negativo | will you? | divieto attenuato | Don't be late, will you? |
| imperativo affermativo | would you? | richiesta cortese | Pass me the salt, would you? |
- Turn off the light, will you? (Spegni la luce, per favore.)
- Help me carry this box, will you? (Aiutami a portare questa scatola, per favore.)
- Have a seat, won't you? (Accomodati, ti prego.)
- Don't forget your keys, will you?
Let's ~, shall we?
| Frase davanti | Tag | Esempio |
|---|---|---|
| Let's + forma base | shall we? | Let's take a break, shall we? |
| Let's not + forma base | shall we? | Let's not argue, shall we? |
| Let's have ... | shall we? | Let's have dinner now, shall we? |
| Let's go ... | shall we? | Let's go home, shall we? |
- Let's watch a movie tonight, shall we? (Stasera guardiamo un film, che ne dici?)
- Let's meet at seven, shall we? (Ci vediamo alle sette, che ne dici?)
- Let's not wait any longer, shall we? (Non aspettiamo oltre, va bene?)
- Let's order some pizza, shall we? (Ordiniamo una pizza, che ne dici?)
Punti chiave
(es.: You can, can't you? / She won't, will she?)
- 2Dopo una frase imperativa, affermativa o negativa che sia, will you? dà una sfumatura di richiesta o conferma attenuata. (es.: Close the door, will you?)
- 3La tag della proposta con Let's è sempre shall we?, e resta shall we? anche dopo Let's not. (es.: Let's not wait, shall we?)
- 4Aggiungere won't you? a un imperativo affermativo dà un invito molto più cortese e caloroso di will you?. (es.: Have some tea, won't you?)
- 5Il soggetto dentro la tag va ripreso obbligatoriamente con un pronome (he, she, we, they ecc.) e non si ripetono nomi propri o sostantivi. (es.: Anna should go, shouldn't she?)
