Il quinto schema - i verbi causativi (have, let, make)
I verbi causativi have·let·make reggono dopo l'oggetto la forma base senza to e costruiscono il senso «far fare qualcosa a qualcuno».
Spiegazione
I verbi causativi have·let·make reggono dopo l'oggetto la forma base senza to e costruiscono il senso «far fare qualcosa a qualcuno».
A. Struttura di base — have / let / make + O + forma base
I verbi causativi have·let·make completano il senso «far fare qualcosa a qualcuno» mettendo dopo l'oggetto la forma base, cioè senza to. Impara come blocco unico la formula have / let / make + O + forma base. Anche get ha valore causativo, ma segue lo schema «get + O + infinito con to» e si distingue così dai tre causativi veri e propri.
| Forma | Esempio |
|---|---|
| have + O + forma base | I had him fix my computer. |
| let + O + forma base | She let me borrow her car. |
| make + O + forma base | They made him apologize. |
| (nota) get + O + infinito con to | I got him to help me. |
- I had my sister help me with the homework. (Ho fatto aiutare a mia sorella i compiti.)
- My boss let me leave early today.
- The teacher made us write an essay.
- Please let me know your decision. (Fammi sapere la tua decisione.)
B. have(richiesta) · let(permesso) · make(costrizione)
have vale come richiesta, let come permesso e make come costrizione: pur nella stessa struttura, la sfumatura cambia molto il senso.
| Verbo | Sfumatura | Esempio |
|---|---|---|
| have | richiesta, incarico (naturale) | I had the plumber fix the sink. |
| let | permesso, lasciar fare | My mom let me go to the party. |
| make | costrizione, imposizione | The rain made us stay indoors. |
- I had my friend pick me up at the station.
- Please let me try one more time. (Lasciami provare ancora una volta.)
- The strict rules made the students study hard.
- She made him apologize for being late.
C. have + O + participio passato — rapporto passivo
| Forma | Senso | Esempio |
|---|---|---|
| have + O + p.p. | farsi fare qualcosa (servizio) | I had my hair cut. |
| have + O + p.p. | subire qualcosa (danno) | I had my wallet stolen. |
| get + O + p.p. | farsi fare qualcosa (parlato) | I got my car fixed. |
- I had my phone repaired at the store.
- She had her passport renewed last week.
- I had my bag stolen on the subway. (Mi hanno rubato la borsa in metropolitana.)
- We got the room cleaned before the guests arrived.
Punti chiave
- 1Il punto in cui si sbaglia più spesso è la regola per cui dopo i verbi causativi have·let·make va sempre la forma base senza to. (es.: made him cry.)
(es.: let me know — fammi sapere)
(es.: I had my hair cut.)
(es.: I got him to help. / I got my car fixed.)
(es.: Let me know, Let me try, Let me help you.)
