Spiegazione

A.  I tre passaggi — agente · verbo · oggetto

Per passare dal passivo all'attivo basta applicare nell'ordine tre passaggi fissi. La formula è ① by + agente → S ② be + p.p. → attivo ③ S → O.

Elemento del passivoPosizione nell'attivoEsempio
by + agentenuovo soggettoby Kevin → Kevin
be + p.p.verbo attivo allo stesso tempowas broken → broke
soggetto del passivonuovo complemento oggettoThe window → the window
  • The song was sung by Anna. → Anna sang the song. (Anna ha cantato quella canzone.)
  • The cake was made by my mom. → My mom made the cake. (Mia madre ha fatto la torta.)
  • The report will be finished by Kevin. → Kevin will finish the report.

  • The rules are followed strictly. → People follow the rules strictly. (La gente segue le regole in modo rigoroso.)

C.  Conversione con tempi, modali, perfetto e continuo

Il tempo del verbo be e la parte di modale, perfetto o continuo restano come sono: cambia in forma attiva soltanto il blocco be + p.p.. Dopo un modale si usa la forma base, nel perfetto have + p.p., nel continuo be + -ing.

Punti chiave

  1. 1Il passaggio dal passivo all'attivo si fa in tre passaggi: by + agente diventa il nuovo soggetto, be + p.p. torna verbo attivo allo stesso tempo, il vecchio soggetto scende a complemento oggetto. (esempio: The song was sung by Anna. → Anna sang the song.)
  2. 2Quando nella frase manca by + agente, al posto di soggetto va un soggetto generico come people·they·someone·we. (esempio: English is spoken here. → People speak English here.)
  3. 3Il tempo del verbo be e le parti che segnalano modale, perfetto o continuo restano invariati: passa alla forma attiva solo il blocco be + p.p.. (esempio: has been finished → has finished)
  4. 4Il passivo con modale (can be p.p. / will be p.p.) diventa all'attivo modale + forma base. (esempio: can be solved → can solve)
  5. 5Al passivo del presente continuo (is being p.p.) corrisponde all'attivo il presente continuo attivo (is + -ing). (esempio: is being built → is building)
