動名詞は 特定の表現と結合して慣用句を作り、be busy -ing, can't help -ing, feel like -ing, it's no use -ing, look forward to -ing, be worth -ing などが代表的です。

A.  会話必須の慣用 — be busy・can't help・feel like

be busy -ing は「〜するのに忙しい」、can't help -ing は「〜せずにはいられない」、feel like -ing は「〜したい」という意味で、会話に非常によく登場します。

I can't help worrying about him.
I feel like taking a walk.

B.  否定・無駄 — it's no use・it's no good・there's no point in

it's no use -ing / it's no good -ing

it's no use -ing〜しても無駄だIt's no use arguing with him.
it's no good -ing〜しても無駄だIt's no good asking her.

C.  to が前置詞の慣用 — look forward to・be worth・on -ing など

look forward to の to は to不定詞の to ではなく前置詞なので、必ずうしろに動名詞(-ing)を使いますlook forward to + -ing (to = 前置詞) を丸ごと覚えておきましょう。

I look forward to hearing from you.
