動名詞會和特定說法結合,形成慣用語,代表性的有 be busy -ing, can't help -ing, feel like -ing, it's no use -ing, look forward to -ing, be worth -ing 等。
A. 會話必備慣用語 — be busy·can't help·feel like
be busy -ing 是「忙著~」,can't help -ing 是「忍不住~」,feel like -ing 是「想要~」的意思,在會話中出現得非常頻繁。
|---|---|---|
| be busy -ing | 忙著~ | She is busy working on her report. |
| can't help -ing | 忍不住~ | I can't help worrying about him. |
| feel like -ing | 想要~ | I feel like taking a walk. |
- He was busy cooking dinner when I called.
- She couldn't help crying at the movie.
- Do you feel like going out tonight?
B. 否定與徒勞 — it's no use·it's no good·there's no point in
it's no use -ing / it's no good -ing
|---|---|---|
| it's no use -ing | ~也沒有用 | It's no use arguing with him. |
| it's no good -ing | ~也沒有用 | It's no good asking her. |
| there's no point in -ing | 沒有理由~ | There's no point in waiting longer. |
- It's no use complaining now.
- It's no good pretending you don't know.
- There's no point in calling him again.
- It was no use trying to change his mind.
C. to 是介系詞的慣用語 — look forward to·be worth·on -ing 等
look forward to 的 to 不是不定詞的 to,而是介系詞,所以後面一定要用動名詞(-ing)。請把 look forward to + -ing (to = 介系詞) 整組記起來。
|---|---|---|
| look forward to -ing | 期待~ | I look forward to hearing from you. |
| be worth -ing | 值得~ | This book is worth reading. |
| on -ing | 一~就 | On arriving, he called me. |
| be used to -ing | 習慣於~ | I'm used to working late. |
| object to -ing | 反對~ | She objects to smoking indoors. |
| when it comes to -ing | 說到~的話 | When it comes to cooking, he's an expert. |
- I'm looking forward to meeting you next week.
- This movie is worth watching twice.
- On hearing the news, she burst into tears.
- He is used to speaking in public.
- 1be busy·can't help·feel like (例: I feel like taking a nap.)
- 2it's no use -ing / it's no good -ing (例: It's no use arguing. / It's no good arguing.)
- 3look forward to·be used to·object to·when it comes to 的 to 是介系詞,所以後面一定要接動名詞。(例: I look forward to meeting you.)
(例: This book is worth reading.)
(例: On arriving, he called me.)
