感情を表す分詞は exciting / excited のように -ing 形と -ed 形が対になり、-ing 形は「感情を与える」、-ed 形は「感情を感じる」意味です。

A. -ing 形 — 感情を与える・引き起こす
-ing 形の分詞は、物事・状況・経験が相手にある感情を引き起こすときに使い、主に物や状況を修飾します。-ing = 感情を与える という公式をまとめて覚えておきましょう。

B. -ed 形 — 感情を感じる
-ed 形の分詞は、人がその感情を実際に経験しているときに使い、たいてい人を主語にします。-ed = 感情を感じる という公式で -ing 形と対にして覚えましょう。

C. 代表的なペアの整理 — ペアで覚える
感情を表す分詞は -ing と -ed をペアで覚え、物・状況なら -ing、人なら -ed を選ぶ感覚を身につけておけば、実戦で混乱しません。

重要ポイント
- 1-ing 形は感情を引き起こす物・状況を修飾し、-ed 形はその感情を実際に感じる人を描写します。(例: The movie is exciting, I am excited.)
- 2日本語の「退屈だ・驚く・疲れる」が物・人のどちらを指すかによって、英語では全く異なる分詞を使います。(例: The class is boring. / I am bored.)
- 3look・seem・feel のような知覚動詞のうしろでも、人が主語なら -ed 形を使います。(例: The children look bored, She seems tired.)
- 4interested in / excited about / surprised at・by / disappointed with のような -ed 形のうしろの前置詞の組み合わせは、ペアで覚えておくとよいです。(例: I am interested in music.)
- 5物・状況には必ず -ing 形を使わなければならず、The movie was bored のように -ed 形を使うと不自然になります。(例: The movie is boring.)
