A.  whose + Substantiv — Form und Grundregel

Da whose die Possessivform des Bezugswortes vertritt, folgt unmittelbar dahinter ein Substantiv ohne Artikel (a/the) und ohne Pronomen. Lerne die Formel whose + Substantiv (ohne Artikel) als Ganzes.

Ursprüngliche zwei SätzeVerbindung (whose)
I know a girl. Her father is a doctor.I know a girl whose father is a doctor.

B.  Possessivform bei Personen — nur whose

Ist das Bezugswort eine Person, steht als Relativpronomen der Possessivform allein whose; of which bleibt sachbezogenen Bezugswörtern vorbehalten.

C.  Possessivform bei Sachen — whose oder of which

Bei sachbezogenem Bezugswort sind whose und of which beide möglich; of which wirkt stark schriftsprachlich, weshalb im Gespräch auch bei Sachen whose natürlicher klingt.

Kernpunkte

(z. B. a girl whose father is a doctor)
  2. 2Ist das Bezugswort eine Person, steht als Possessivform allein whose; of which bleibt Sachen vorbehalten — merke dir diese Unterscheidung. (z. B. a man whose name I forgot)
  3. 3Bei sachbezogenem Bezugswort sind whose und of which beide möglich, doch im Gespräch klingt whose natürlich, während of which förmlich und schriftsprachlich wirkt — entwickle dafür ein Gefühl. (z. B. a book whose cover is red)
(z. B. eine Frau, deren Vater Arzt ist = a girl whose father is a doctor)
