비교 - not as ~ as = 비교급 than = less than

A. not as ~ as — 원급 부정 방식
not as + 원급 + as는 '앞의 대상이 뒤의 대상만큼 …하지 않다'는 뜻으로, 원급을 그대로 둔 채 앞에 not만 붙여 만듭니다. 일반동사 문장에서는 don't / doesn't로 부정합니다.

B. 비교급 than — 방향을 뒤집는 방식
not as ~ as 문장은 주어와 비교 대상의 자리를 바꾸고 비교급 + than으로 다시 쓰면 같은 뜻이 됩니다. not as ~ as = 비교급 than (자리 교체) = less than (자리 유지) 세 방식의 등가 관계가 이 유닛의 핵심입니다.

C. less than — 열등비교 방식
less + 원급 + than은 주어·대상 자리를 그대로 유지한 채 같은 뜻을 표현하는 열등비교 방식으로, 앞에 less만 붙이면 되므로 문장 구조 변화가 없다는 장점이 있습니다.
