ประโยค not as ~ as เมื่อสลับที่ประธานกับสิ่งที่ถูกเทียบแล้วเขียนใหม่ด้วยขั้นกว่า + than จะได้ความหมายเดียวกัน. not as ~ as = ขั้นกว่า than (สลับที่) = less than (คงเดิม) ความเท่ากันของสามวิธีนี้คือหัวใจของหน่วยนี้.

C. less than — วิธีเปรียบเทียบความด้อยกว่า
less + ขั้นปกติ + than เป็นวิธีเปรียบเทียบความด้อยกว่าที่บอกความหมายเดียวกันโดยคงที่ของประธานและสิ่งที่ถูกเทียบไว้ตามเดิม จึงมีข้อดีคือเพียงเติม less ไว้ข้างหน้า โครงสร้างประโยคก็ไม่ต้องเปลี่ยนอะไร.
