Estilo indirecto - oraciones interrogativas

A. Con interrogativo — interrogativo + S + V
En las interrogativas que llevan un interrogativo como who, what, where, when, why o how, ese interrogativo se toma como conjunción y el orden que sigue pasa a «sujeto + verbo». Con interrogativo → interrogativo + S + V. El do/does/did del estilo directo desaparece y solo el tiempo se refleja en el verbo.
| Estilo directo | Estilo indirecto |
|---|---|
| "Where do you live?" | asked where I lived |
| "What are you doing?" | asked what I was doing |
| "When did she leave?" | asked when she had left |
| "Why are you late?" | asked why I was late |
| "How did you know?" | asked how I had known |
- He asked, "Where is the station?" → He asked where the station was. (Preguntó dónde estaba la estación.)
- She asked, "Who called you?" → She asked who had called me. (Preguntó quién me había llamado.)
- Tom asked, "What do you want?" → Tom asked what I wanted. (Tom preguntó qué quería yo.)
- Anna asked, "How are you feeling?" → Anna asked how I was feeling. (Anna preguntó cómo me sentía.)
B. Sin interrogativo — if / whether + S + V
Sin interrogativo → if / whether + S + V. if y whether son casi siempre intercambiables, y en registro formal o al enumerar opciones whether resulta más natural.

| Elemento | Estilo directo | Estilo indirecto |
|---|---|---|
| Tiempo | am / is / are | was / were |
| Tiempo | will | would |
| Tiempo | can | could |
| Persona | you (el interlocutor) | I / he / she (según quien transmite) |
| Tiempo | now / today | then / that day |
| Lugar | here / this | there / that |
- He asked, "Where are you now?" → He asked where I was then. (Preguntó dónde estaba yo en ese momento.)

Ideas clave
(Ej.: "Where do you live?" → He asked where I lived.)
(Ej.: He asked if / whether I was ready.)
- 3El do/does/did del estilo directo desaparece en el estilo indirecto y solo el tiempo se refleja en el verbo principal. (X: She asked if I do like it → O: She asked if I liked it.)
(Ej.: He asked me if I was okay.)
(X: He asked where did I live → O: He asked where I lived.)
