Relativos - omissão dos advérbios relativos

Quando o antecedente é genérico, como the time·the day·the place·the reason, os advérbios relativos when·where·why são omitidos com frequência, e para modo usa-se só um entre the way e how.

Explicação

Quando o antecedente é genérico, como the time·the day·the place·the reason, os advérbios relativos when·where·why são omitidos com frequência, e para modo usa-se só um entre the way e how.

Quando o antecedente é um substantivo genérico como the time·the day·the place·the reason, os advérbios relativos when·where·why costumam ser omitidos, e o sentido continua o mesmo.

Com advérbio relativoForma omitida
the day when I met herthe day I met her
the place where I was bornthe place I was born
the reason why he leftthe reason he left
the time when we arrivedthe time we arrived
  • Do you remember the day I met her?
  • This is the place I grew up. (Este é o lugar onde eu cresci.)
  • Tell me the reason you called me. (Diga-me a razão pela qual você me ligou.)
  • I forgot the time the movie starts.

  • Show me the way you solved this problem.
  • Show me how you solved this problem.

the day when I met herthe day I met her
the reason why I calledthe reason I called

  • The day I got my first job is unforgettable.
  • The reason I moved was a new opportunity.
  • The place we stayed was cozy and quiet. (O lugar onde nós ficamos era aconchegante e silencioso.)
  • I still remember the moment I first saw the ocean.

Pontos principais

  1. 1Quando o antecedente é genérico, como the time·the day·the place·the reason, o advérbio relativo when·where·why atrás dele costuma cair, e na conversa a forma sem ele é até a mais natural. (Ex.: the day (when) we met)
  2. 2Para indicar modo escreve-se só the way ou só how, e esticar para the way how ou the way in which soa artificial. (Ex.: I love the way / how you smile)
